How I Came to Know Rinpoche, by Ricky ~ English / Hungarian Bilingual

I have known the Venerable Shang Rinpoche for almost ten years. A Taiwanese girl approached me on the street asking if I wanted to meet a Chinese master. I said, why not, provided there was no fee. She said it was free, so I went. Honestly, if it had cost me a dime, I would not have gone. (After a few years I started to contribute to the rent.)

I had always been interested in meeting a real Asian master. At home, however, I had never read anything 'esoteric' because, although I was intrigued, I knew I would always believe the latest book I read as I was not an expert. (Most 'experts' are not experts, anyway.)

So I went to Rinpoche's place, learned some qigong and decided to continue to go. I am an obstinate man, and I was not scared at all that they might try to convert me. Luckily, no one went out of his or her way to do so, and I learned a lot of interesting stuff. (It is funny that two foreigners did want to convert me. They were the most fervent believers, and both left the group later.)

Anyway, after 3 years I realized I could accept most of what Shang Rinpoche taught us, especially after I read the Venerable Kalu Rinpoche's book, Luminous Mind, where the bardo process is explained so clearly. That was the turning point: whether I liked it or not, I had to accept that reincarnation exists.

However, my earlier skepticism never stopped me from asking Rinpoche numerous questions, and from looking up to Rinpoche as somebody who sacrificed so much to acquire the vast amount of wisdom that He has. In the meantime, I got a lot of practical advice from Him,and I wish I had listened to it better. Whatever He said proved true, although sometimes it took a few years.

What this taught me is: wisdom is not just an abstract concept but it entails a lot of practical elements, for example, patience. Well, not my strongest point. But who knows, in time I might get better.

I am very grateful to Shang Rinpoche for all He is doing for us.

(Harom ev mulva elkezdtem beszallni a berleti dijba.)

Ok voltak a leglelkesebbek, es kesobb mindketten elhagytak a csoportot.)

Koszonettel tartozom Rinpochenek azert, amit ertunk tesz.
